Q: Why do aerobic effluent treatment systems require servicing?

A: It is an electro-mechanical device, and can either breakdown or fail to run as intended, similar to a car. So to ensure your system is always reliable, it needs to be serviced.

At each service we:
  • Ensure all electrical components are working to their optimum capabilities;
  • Check the general health of the system by measuring ph levels, particle levels, bacterial action, chlorine levels and suitability of the water for the purpose of irrigating your garden;
  • Check and if required repair or replace any consumable items like, chlorine, hose clamps, sprinklers or any other fault we may find;
  • Provide a written report to the customer and to the local council, as it is a statutory requirement that the local authority be notified about the health and servicing of the system. To ensure the safety of the community.
Q: Is it true some cleaning products can damage my system? If so what cleaning products can I use?

A: Yes! Some cleaning products can damage your system. Septic (aerobic effluent systems are septic systems) systems function on the action of naturally occurring bacteria (you should never intentionally add bacteria to your system). It is important that anything “Anti-Bacterial” or “Germ Killing” does not go into the system as it will kill the bacteria that are so important to efficient running of your system.

*3 GOLDEN RULES*
  • Nothing anti-bacterial, no disinfectants, anti-biotic medications, Napi-san, Pine-o-Clean, Spray & Wipe, Dettol and the likes of these products as they are all anti-bacterial;
  • Nothing containing chlorine, most toilet cleaners both liquids and powders contain chlorine;
  • No chemicals or bleaches, all hair colours that lighten hair will damage your system.

The only ‘safe’ cleansers are usually mild detergents like dishwashing liquids, laundry powders and soaps.We recommend products such as Enjo as they provide a complete household cleaning system that does not use anti-bacterial products or chemicals that will damage your system; they are completely safe for your system and family.
Please contact Paula email; paula@petestreat.com.au as she will be pleased to assist with all your Enjo enquiries.

Q: How often should the tank be pumped out?

A: The general answer to this question is approximately every 5 years. However there are many variables such as, the size of the tank, the number of people at the dwelling, the things disposed of in the system (use of anti-bacterial products will create a need to have the system pumped)and of course the frequency and quality of servicing. Pete’s Treat Technicians will always inform you of what needs to occur to increase the time between pump outs as pump outs are expensive.
